Those That See, And Those That Don't and a Math Corner

To some degree, I think we're all blind.  I'm not talking about our physical ability to see. I'm talking about our ability to be self reflective. It fascinates me how some people can be very self reflective about their practice and others who aren't. There's also those who are self reflective enough to see that a certain practice or behavior isn't getting results, but don't change that particular practice or behavior.

All of life is a change, where we must change and adapt. Rarely do  things stay the same, especially in the economy and the world we live in today. Last Thursday I went to KNDA radio and talked for a hour to listeners about technology and the national technology standards. One only has to look at those to understand the importance of being flexible, being current, and always learning because information and new methods and technologies are changing at a rate unpresendented in human history.

Yet, as human beings, we don't necessarily like that we have to change. Some folks dig in their heals and say, "I'm not changing" or "It worked before, it will work again" regardless if there is something more effective. Worse yet, we engage in practices and behaviors that we actually have data on that shows we aren't making the kind of gains we want, yet we continue forward (insert Einstein's definition of insanity).

My hope is that we can all see better in the future.

FROM SAUL IN THE MATH CORNER:
Here we are in May and the last few weeks of school. Great job on benchmark #3 to staff and students. We have all worked hard and student success is on everyone's heart and mind. I appreciate you sharing your comments and concerns with me. Yes, I mean all of the comments andconcerns because they all involve student success. A comment was made at the DMLT meeting. It was one of those rare moments when I was focused enough understand what was being said. All kidding aside. The presenter said, "Educators have a hard time accepting praise because they are
wanting to be/do better. They see all the things that need to be done and
don't take the time to look at what they have done."
Please take time to look what you have done.
