First Day Teaching 5th Grade

It felt good to be back in the classroom. I miss it. I miss the relationship with students and the interaction. There is something about teaching that is sacred. I need to do this more. It reminds how easy it is to forget about how to engage the kid that just won't sit still or the overly social girls at the table by the window that JUST WON'T STOP TALKING! (LOL)

I felt today's lesson went very well, too well in fact. Kudos to both fourth grade and Adrianna for the knowledge base the students have in relation to decimals. This was my first day on the decimal unit and we really moved along (yes, I was checking for understanding as we went).

I've really tried to incorporate technology and so I used KEYNOTE (it's like Powerpoint but for the Mac) and used it for examples and visuals. It's so cool to be able to go back and forth nearly simultaneously with the doc camera/computer. Sweet. Where was this when I was teaching?

At the end of the lesson, we reviewed and summarized. I was impressed by the depth of knowledge of the kids. Looking forward to tomorrow.
