CONNECTIONS

Even though there are 600+ students at school, some you enviably get to know more so than others. One young man in particular comes to mind. Since coming on my radar since 2nd grade (he is now in 4th) I've been trying to find what makes him tick, what is his biggest interest because he doesn't seem to be motivated by anything we've tried in school.

While doing recess duty this week, he came over and we talked quite a bit. This young man is a bit of a loner and as we chit-chatted, I struck gold because I learned what he DOES get excited about and this small piece of information blew me away. I would have never thought that this boy would have such an interest and knowledge base, but he does!

Making those kind of connections with kids is tough because it requires time to get to know them. I can't do that with every student in school, but it sure is nice when those connections are made. I let his teacher know this "gem" of information and now hopefully she too can make the connection and tap into his enthusiasm!
