Reading First
National Conference Time so we're here at the Reading First Conference in Nashville. Sessions were good today as was the plenary (group) session which featured the First Lady and other important folks at the national level.
It was good to see and hear the commonalities our schools share from across the country and the affirmation that what we're doing in education is right.

Linking Science and Literacy
I have a son who loves science. I don't know where he got that. Though I appreciate science, to say I "love" it would be a stretch. I just finished the book, LINKING SCIENCE AND LITERACY and have to say that this is a thought provoking and engaging book in relation to science and education.
The National Research Council over ten years ago hit the nail on the head when it concluded: "science inquiry is an essential, fundamental component of science content, along with science subject matter..."
To inquire is essential in science. Now how do we link that inquiry to writing?
That is the challenge this year.
