Kudos, to the OSPI folks, at least this first day. The sessions I attended were engaging and very informative. You never know when you attend conferences, but from Terry's keynote address to the sessions, the conference is very solid.
The most interesting came from the Schools of Distinction session I went to and how they climbed into the data to see what schools made significant gains on student achievement. I will be sharing that information with staff and seeing how we can incorporate some of that work into what we're doing.
On another note, I received today our administrator surveys back. These surveys catagorize my performance under three major areas. This is good data and will drive our work as we continue to improve our administrator practice.

The Weight
Today was very reminiscent of last year for me. I had forgotten those days last year where almost the entire day was focused on investigation and discipline. It goes to show that we have much to be proud of in terms of how far we've come with our discipline. That said, the weight of it all sometimes gets me.
When I hear and see how the weight of so much is put on students, I get discouraged. The students that are fighting forces beyond their control is astounding in number. Thrust in impossible situations, who can they turn to?
I have the great pleasure of working with the Sunnyside PD and have to say their commitment to helping students and going the extra mile is so appreciated. Too many times these people are not recognized for such contributions. They are the quiet heroes around us.

So Thankful and a Geek Moment

With the new year upon us, I can think of so many things I'm thankful for this year. Just being alive is one of them. So much I take for granted, knowing that I could lose everything in a heartbeat.
Over the break, I enjoyed food, family, food, fun, food, and of course friends. Now that I'm getting older, many of my students have graduated and moved on in life, but I found it very entertaining and enjoyable to spend some time with three of my all-time faves playing ROCK BAND.
Here I am in my thirties playing a game called ROCK BAND and I have to tell you, it ROCKED! Loved it.
To friends, family, and life!
Cheers.
